To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of his brand, British designer Erdem teamed with Sølve Sundsbø on a limited edition portfolio featuring 10 images of Guinevere Van Seenus in archive pieces. The publication was designed by Studio Frith and printed by Smythson and features a forward by Anna Wintour and essays by esteemed writers such as Sarah Mower and Suzy Menkes. Proceeds from sales of the portolio will go to The British Fashion Council Education Foundation, which Erdem won while a student at the Royal College of Art. To sit alongside the publication, Erdem asked his sister and long-term collaborator, Sara Moralioglu to create a fashion film, shown here exclusively on SHOWstudio.
Discussing his brand anniversary the designer commented, 'I wanted the celebration to very much focus on all the extraordinary support I’ve received from so many people and to pass on the support by donating proceeds to the British Fashion Council Education Foundation which I myself received whilst studying at the Royal College of Art (and without which I could not have continued my studies.)'
The porfolio and film reference celebrated photographic styles; 'The starting point and inspiration came from Richard Avedon and Irving Penn, I was looking at their portraiture work from the fourties and fifties. I loved the idea of having these beautiful and simple canvas backdrops,' explains Erdem. 'I wanted the looks I selected to feel special and to be something that encapsulated what I was trying to say that season...I started by going through the archive and revisiting all ten years. It was really difficult to pick just one from each year and there are some things I’m sad we didn’t get to feature.'
