Killed considers the role of fashion publishing in reflecting and representing the world around it. The project focuses on a fashion story commissioned and executed in summer 2001 for the October 2001 issue of i-D magazine that was rejected - or to use the industry term, 'killed' - for its coincidental referencing of the September 11 terrorist attacks. By juxtaposing the shoot with contemporary fashion imagery also executed prior to September 11, sharing the shoot's challenging and even brutal aesthetic, Killed questions the criteria governing propriety in the industry and how the meaning of imagery becomes distorted by time and context.
