As part of his Mastered photography program, Nick Knight recruited Anna Trevelyan to help explore and explain the importance of styling in image-making. She tasked aspiring creatives with pitching a photoshoot inspired by both their own unique location and existing network of collaborators and the stock at cult store MACHINE-A. Trelevyan looked for work that paid tribute to the global focus of many of the designers stocked by the retailer. Over 300 people responded to the brief. Ross Laurence submitted the winning proposal, and was given the opportunity to bring his shoot to life, with the help of Trevelyan. The now defunct Lake Dolores Waterpark in Southern California - a location Laurence regularly passed while en route to Las Vegas - formed the backdrop. The location was selected partly due to its colours, which compliment the vibrant garments. Trevelyan muses on references such as The Man Who Fell To Earth when creating the shoot’s character. In her words, ‘as if she was from outer space in high fashion and landed in this colourful yet deserted and desaturated vast space, completely out of place in the desert.’
