As part of the exhibition Selling Sex, London-based poet and rapper MC Angel orchestrated a dynamic performance that was streamed live from SHOWstudio's headquarters. Angel uses her unique oratory style to tap into the ideals of the SHOWstudio Shop all-female display, offering a forceful perspective on a variety of issues relating to sex, gender and feminism.
Drawing on her own activism in fighting the gender disparity within the hip hop industry, the self-proclaimed 'spitter' recruits a lively female troupe to help give her messages more punch. Taking to the SHOWstudio soapbox alongside the likes of rapper Shay D, burlesque performer Bijou Noir and singer Laura Steel, this is a feminist call-to-action with a difference. While utilising a variety of different mediums - song, dance, rap, poetry and even graffiti - all the performers are fueled by a united desire to raise awareness of the social problems that face women of all kinds in their communities.
MC Angel presents a unique vision of what it means to be angelic - less lingerie-clad honied eroticism, more passionate riotous energy.
