In 2013, Maison Martin Margiela teamed with SHOWstudio for an exhibition that explores the way in which scent triggers memory. Artists were given a Margiela Replica fragrance and asked to draw a memory that the scent evoked. This film by Raquel Couceiro brings these drawings to life through a series of animations that embrace the idea that the drawings are ethereal traces of personal histories. It is accompanied by a voice over from SHOWstudio Shop's associate director Niamh White that explains the concept behind the exhibition and elaborates further on the artist's illustrated memories. The film is accompanied by an essay by Lee C. Wallick who tapped into the memory banks of the perfumers responsible for creating the Replica scents to reveal the moments that inspired their fragrances.
