About

Product of a groundbreaking collaboration between artist and fashion designer Helen Storey and scientist Tony Ryan, Wonderland uses fashion as a 'Trojan Horse' to progress a radical, two-year exploration into biodegradable materials.

In January and February 2008, award-winning designer and artist Professor Helen Storey resumed her fashion career - abandoned in 1995 in favour of pioneering science installations - live, in front of a public audience. During a month-long residency at London College of Fashion's 'Fashion Space Gallery', Storey constructed her first collection in twelve years: a sequence of six dresses chemically fabricated specifically to 'disappear', over time in water. Storey dissolved a pre-made garment throughout the London residency to demonstrate the miraculous plastics that she and Ryan created - a precursor to a shoot with Nick Knight and model Alice Dellal where Storey's stunning collection was first memorialised in photographs, and then dissolved in gigantic tanks of ate. The entire process was captured on video in a unique fashion film depicting these truly one-off garments in both life and death.

The fashion film and documentary of the Wonderland project are presented alongside extensive press archives of Storey's fashion and art work - a comprehensive monograph of a truly unique fashion career and an incredible one-off project.
