MARTIN MARGIELA: UNFINISHED PATTERN
Many took up Maison Martin Margiela's challenge to complete what he had left unfinished. Since late June, SHOWstudio viewers across the world have been downloading his simple, shift-dress pattern and adding to it to express their individual vision. Once made up, the more creatively ambitious have interpreted their designs in fashion stories, surprising and varied. To showcase this two-way fashion dialogue, a selection of the best are posted in our Atelier Gallery.

SHOWstudio also invited four established creatives-three designers and an artist- to work from Margiela's pattern to create a dress, to be photographed in a final shoot. Joining outstanding submissions by designers Hussein Chalayan, Ann-Sofie Back and Swash, and by artist Alexis Teplin, Atelier Gallery stars Claudia Rosa Lukas and Ada Fung/Elizabeth Holmstrow were also asked to send their dresses for this live event.
On 2-3 August 2004, photographers METZ + RACINE worked with a range of props stylists to interpret each of the six selected dresses in a live shoot. The event was covered with a Picture Phone reportage story conducted by photographer Will Gray and Ada Fung.
