Chez Moineau, Saint Germain,
Ed Van der Elsken,

Signed black and white print from 1985

14 x 12"

Ed Van der Elsken's photographic imagery provides quotidian, through an intimate and autobiographic perspective, on the European zeitgeist in which it represents. Spanning the period of the Second World War into the nineteen-seventies, his works depict the realms of love, sex, art, jazz, and alternative culture. A self-taught photographer, his seemingly raw work focuses on the evocation of the atmosphere surrounding his subjects; subjects of which he encountered upon his years spent traveling. Regarded as the "enfant terrible of Dutch photography," Van der Elsken has gained international fame with his talented work in filmmaking and photography.
