In Maiko Takeda's piece we are struck by a twofold sensuality, that of the sleeping woman, and that of the fluttering cinematic light. In this piece, exhibited as part of the To Bed exhibition, the cinematic projection enfolds more than merely the image but the whole space, and like the cinema that most dreamlike and soporific of spaces, we ourselves experience the sensuality of sleep, and feel our own bodies stretched out in the shadow and the light. The projection and the gaze are no longer mere vehicles to sight, for they touch and caress.
