Nick Knight's iconic image of Japanese/American model Devon Aoki in Alexander McQueen is an exemplary photograph shot for the cover of the influential style magazine Visionaire in 1997. Here, the celebrated British fashion photographer who has continued to push the boundaries of photographic process and aesthetics, deftly enhances the signature contradiction between the past and the future that is particular to another British icon, Alexander McQueen. This striking photograph is at once directly confrontational and thought-provoking, and captures Aoki with a dark, futuristic aura that infuses her glamour. Icelandic style-icon and singer Bjork sought out a similar Alexander Mcqueen dress and was photographed by Knight for her 1997 album Homogenic, resulting in an image that is the stylistic counterpart of Devon. The image also serves as the cover photo for Knight's self-titled monograph released in 2009.
