Kim McCarty shows in these works her singular delicate watercolour paintings depicting adolescent and preadolescent children. Her paintings have the effect of a blurry afterimage; hovering between presence and absence, innocence and wisdom, and past, present and future. At times using only a single colour and at others a bruise-inspired palette of acid yellows, greens, and browns, her paintings evoke a sense of uncertainty, ambivalence and anxiety.
