Saint Germain de Pres "Cher Moireau",
Ed Van der Elsken,

Materials: Signed and annotated black and white print from the 1970s

Dimensions: 8 x 10 inches

Ed Van der Elsken's photographic imagery provides a quotidian, though intimate and autobiographic, perspective on the European zeitgeist which it represents. Spanning the period of the Second World War into the nineteen-seventies, his works depict the realms of love, sex, art, jazz, and alternative culture. A self-taught photographer, his seemingly raw work focuses on evoking the atmosphere surrounding his subjects; subjects which he encountered upon his years of traveling. Regarded as the "enfant terrible of Dutch photography," Van der Elsken has gained international fame with his accomplished work in filmmaking and photography.
