Shadow of a doubt (1943),
Stephen Lapthisophon,

Materials: Pigmented bacon fat and burn hole on paper

Dimensions: 30 x 22 inches, 76.2 x 55.9 cm

"Shadow of a Doubt" depicts a fleeting moment in time, captured only by recollection. Stephen Lapthisophon, a practising artist who is legally blind, uses his work to over-emphasise the sense of sight in aesthetic culture. By accumulating and collecting layers of meaning and associations, Lapthisophon provides a visualisation of his personal interpretations. His blindness is used as figure for the ways in which we see the world through our own specific framing mechanisms. By using non-traditional art mediums on paper, the artist is able to examine the interaction of our internal sensory processes.
