Toe and Heel Ball Lenses,
Naomi Filmer,

Hand-blown glass, Silver plated copper, and flocking

Toe: 4.3 x 4.3 x 4.3 inches, 11 x 11 x 11 cm

Heel: 6.2 x 6.2 x 6.2 inches, 16 x 16 x 16 cm

From her series Out of the Ordinary, Naomi Filmer brings a redefined meaning to the term ‘through the looking glass’. In 2007, the V&A exhibited a remarkable collection of ten hand-blown glass balls flawlessly outline the intricacies of the body working both as a group and in isolation. The ‘toe and heel ball lenses’ sees a hollow metal cast of the foot encased by a ball of delicate glass. The transparent orb accommodates the precious body part, which is lined with a flesh coloured flocking, giving the viewer a rare chance to really look inside themselves.

Filmer can be commissioned to create these sculptures for individuals.
