Gareth Pugh Frieze Film launched!

Captured during a shoot for the October 2006 'Happiness' issue of i-D, Frieze is an explosion of neon colour, dazzling light and frantic animation showcasing the unique talent of Gareth Pugh. An inspired improvisation on the day - directed by Nick Knight, styled by Nicola Formichetti and starring Pugh himself - resulted in a glowing editorial spread and this riotous celebration of fashion in motion, painstakingly animating archive footage into an anarchic frenzy. A fitting postscript to our 2006 Fash-Off project, where Nick video-blogged live from the set and throughout the post-production process, Frieze is an unbridled cinematic reverie that expresses all the innovation and invention both of this shoot and of Pugh's stratospheric career to date.

Gareth Pugh: Wild Card or Future Visionary

"Contrast, ambiguity, duality. It's a struggle between lightness and darkness. The contrast between different raw materials, masculine and feminine, rough and smooth, bad and good," says Gareth when he is asked to define his aesthetic and personal design principals. If you've seen even a glimpse of just one collection you'll find it hard to disagree with the man. "

    Slightly hypnotising, even in HD!

The use of colour in both this film and this shoot is definitely interesting. I know previously Gareth has talked about colour being 'distracting' in his designs - really, the only colours he has ever used are gold, red, grey, white and every possible permutation of black.
The balloons also remind me of Jeff Koons, and the whole thing has a bold playfulness which is often missed in Pugh's darker escapades.

Watching this video reassures me in it, as long as it's attached to Gareth Pugh I'm a fan. How kind you asked, thank you

It kind of reminds me of a 7UP commercial from long ago. Only now I don't feel like knocking down a bottle of 7UP.

sorry but there's already a mainstream oversaturation
of multicolourism (and also mindless at that)
    multicolourism is over.

It will certainly be a challenge for him to see how he can manage to balance it all and keep it very together while staying true to his very own aesthetics ... I'm absolutely confident that he can pull it off with FLYING COLOURS! :)

It will certainly be a challenge for him to see how he can manage to balance it all with finesse and keep it very together and indeed staying true to his very own aesthetics while giving it a colourful twist ... I'm confident that he can pull it off with FLYING COLOURS !

"Roisin bravely wore Gareth Pugh way before Beyonce did, even donning his designs for a single cover shoot.
She revealed that her biggest style influence comes from her Grandma. "She was never seen without her red lipstick or without her hair done. In the winter she would parade around in a full-length mink coat with leather gloves."
She added that as a child she wasn't always so glamorous. "When I was about nine and old enough to dress myself, I would swing wildly from being an absolute tomboy to ridiculous frilliness."

Dazeddigital.com got exclusive access into Thierry Mugler’s archives for this months “Man Machine” issue. Gareth Pugh made custom plastic masks for this story, that mold around the features of the face! Crazy right?

    USING COLOR FOR MEANING
" Color is considered one of the most useful and powerful design tools you have. People respond to different colors in different ways, and these responses take place on a subconscious, emotional level. In our American culture, black has long been associated with death, while white is believed to signify life and purity. In the Orient, however, white is the traditional color of mourning. In the United States, black has also come to suggest sophistication and formality. Americans generally associate trust an stability with the color blue, while Koreans have this reaction to pink and other pastel colors."

I like the way Pierre and Giles used colour in their compositions ... colour is also poetry ....

Gareth Pugh To Launch Make-Up Range
    5 months ago 06th Mar 15:00
Gareth Pugh is reportedly planning to launch a footwear and make-up range, to add to his already impressive fashion collection.
His autumn/winter 09 show was met with praise by the fashion pack, with some being very surprised by the wearabilty of a few of his pieces.
According to WWD, Pugh revealed his future plans at his party on Wednesday night, as he took to the music decks to act as DJ for the night.
Although Pugh has been criticised in the past for his creative, if un wearable clothing, so perhaps his make-up line will be the epitome of Gothic chic.
He's the hot name to watch in the industry at the moment, as many have tipped him for the top job at Dior Homme, after constant reports suggesting he had been confirmed.
However, no official word has come from LVMH as yet to confirm any kind of position for Pugh, so for now we'll have to make-do with some funky new make-up from the King of quirk.
