Mr Victoria Beckham, some footballer called David, was present at his wife's show this morning in more ways than one. Sitting next to Anna Wintour, suited-up and snapping pics, taking over Twitterland, with other guests wondering if he wore his H&M undies this freezing cold morning and, as Victoria said backstage, in the slouchy beanies the models wore.
And just like David, the models looked great. In her show notes, Beckham credited the introduction of her new line with giving her the opportunity to 'really focus on the attention to structure and detail'. In the details the interest lay. The silhouettes were sleek and streamlined, staying close to the body and kicking away now and then with pleats and folds. A knee-length dress in military green with exposed zip at the back had slim black bands bringing to mind bondage straps but just so. Leather straps appeared now and then, criss crossing at the back of another dress or as belts high on the waist. And again, underneath the short sleeves of another, offering a peek at the skin. Collars contrasted in black leather or a flash of blue on a maroon dress. With everything else feeling so in control, glimpses like this stood out.
Surprise of the show? Towards the end the girls switched from the high-heeled ankle boots to flat motorcycle boots. But they kept their thick ribbed socks. That, Victoria explained, was where Romeo's influence came into play.
