From the image of bubbling seas that defined the Louis Vuitton invitation, it was clear that Kim Jones was set for the oceans for his third collection for Louis Vuitton. Fusing digital with craft Jones delivered a swarm of high-class and super sleek gear destined for expensive yachts, sandy beaches and far beyond.
Clothes inspired by the seas saw Jones unite luxury with sea travel. From cotton dungarees, raincoats, light parkas, streamlined suits and tuxedo dinner suits to cashmere wetsuits, Jones explored extravagance through a personal approach to travel and narration. Maritime references was explored in an anchor, clasped between the monogrammed initials of LV, a black life jacket and classic boating deck shoes.
As always super smart accessories were envious - rucksacks in orange and yellow came with detachable leather wallets and hard-cased boxes were emblazoned with the signature LV check. The patchwork denim created by an ancient Japanese technique, although beautiful, was less successful and out of kilter with Vuitton’s slick and modern approach to luxury.
The nautical jaunt saw Jones further set out Vuitton’s aesthetic aligning the collections with providing the global traveler with a definitive luxurious wardrobe. Jones successfully reconnects Vuitton’s menswear to its travel heritage, and in doing so ensuring the Vuitton man will be sailing to his brave new world - in illustrious attire.
