The social media barometer of show coverage (which dress was tweeted or Instagrammed the most?!) leaves a worldwide audience with a biased point of view. It's like watching Fox News instead of BBC or vice versa. Those with thousands plus followers know what appeals to their audience and what looks good on screen, which translates into on the ground perspective always being a little skewed. Couture by its very nature is about the opposite, the little one of a kind things you can't see seven hundred fold.

There's been a murmur that shows would be smaller this season. And so far, it seems true. Take Dior's, not one, but three shows, held within a white, sculptural salon. All the clothes were best admired up close, for their delicacy of handiwork, as if someone in the atelier had taken a scalpel and carefully traced away shape after shape, hundreds of half moons or diamonds, like over blown eyelet lace. Some dresses even had an effect akin to that of those honeycomb party decorations, the ones that lay flat until you spread open their matrix of punched paper tissue.

As for the accessories, some shoes came with garter style elastic harnesses, like knee socks without the sock and here were also tiny bows, just like those worn as the only jewellery. There's something to be said of a haute couture customer understanding what it is to have style, to be cavalier and at the same time discrete. There's too much sharing going on today, too little mystery, so this true luxury, is indeed, a return to intimacy.
