BLAAK

Fashion Designer

BLAAK is a London-based fashion label, producing womens and menswear as well as footwear. Founded in 1998 by fellow undergraduates Aaron Sharif and Sachiko Okada, the pair made an immediate impact with their first collection Blaak Magic, which they worked on with stylist Andrew Davies. Drawing inspiration from the West, the East and Africa, the label would continue to explore and re-interpret ever-diminishing traditional dress in the modern world using natural fabrics. BLAAK was awarded New Gen sponsorship by The British Fashion Council for three years, the Vidal Sassoon Award for Cutting Edge Design and Young Designer Of The Year at the Elle Style Awards 2002.

In 2010-2012, Sharik and Okada worked as the creative consultants for menswear at Cerruti. Okada departed her role at BLAAK in 2013 and now works as a freelance creative consultant. Sharif remains as creative director of BLAAK, and is also an astrology consultant.
