Bobby Luo

Creative Director

Bobby Luo is the creative director and co-founder of The Butter Factory, a nightclub at One Fullerton, Singapore. In addition to his work as a club owner, Luo has been a fashion stylist, an interior designer, a set designer, a visual merchandiser and a DJ. He’s also a prominent advocate of LGBTQ rights in Singapore, and a recognised figure in the community.

The Butter Factory has become a favourite with party enthusiasts as a result of its underground street art dance club aesthetic. It won Singapore Tourism Board's Nightspot Of The Year in 2011. The Butter Factory shut its doors in 2015.

Luo is known for his theatrical personal style. He cites Boy George as a massive inspiration for his style, noting that his posse The Blitz Kids, 'ignored conventional fashion rules and took radical fashion style to new extremes by concocting eccentric looks to shock and delight'. Luo also creates through his fashion boutique, Superspace, which opened in 2014. The store prides itself on its edgy and unusual offerings.

Luo also released a limited edition publication in 2019, FREAKDOM: The Book, which is a kaleidoscope of art, fashion and uniqueness. Born out of a year-long daily art project on Instagram, the queer photo art book had started as an attempt for Luo to visually archive his wardrobe in 2017.
