Claire Catterall
Curator
Claire Catterall is a curator at Somerset House's Embankment Gallery, where she is responsible for exhibitions covering architecture, design, fashion and photography, bringing cutting-edge contemporary work into the heart of London. Having started her curatorial work in London's Design Museum in the early nineties, Catterall worked as an independent curator on a number of exhibitions including Portable Architecture (1997) with Robert Kronenberg, at the Royal Institute of British Architects; and Stealing Beauty (1999) for the Institute of Contemporary Art.
In 2000 she co-founded Scarlet Projects with Sarah Gaventa, which worked on presentations of design and architecture, offering a lateral approach to commissioning, working in the public realm, and curating exhibitions and events. Some of the projects include the Super Design Market (2006) at the Southbank Centre and The Village Fete (2008) at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Catterall's exhibition at Somerset House, SHOWstudio: Fashion Revolution, was co-curated with Penny Martin and Alistair O'Neill.
