David Furnish was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. He began his career in advertising and became a filmmaker in 1995, directing the BAFTA-nominated documentary Elton John: Tantrums & Tiaras.
Furnish is an entrepreneur with a global and strategic outlook occupying a unique intersection of philanthropy, film, music and theatre. He is also an advocate for fashion and is an ambassador to the Men’s London Fashion Council. In 2015 Furnish assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer of Rocket Entertainment, which comprises Rocket Pictures, Rocket Stage, Rocket Music (managing a number of artists, including Sir Elton John) and Rocket Sports Management. Furnish also worked in the creation of Billy Elliot the Musical. As Executive Producer, he has been involved in productions as they have rolled out across the world. Moat recently he co-produced the feature film Rocketman (2019).
Furnish is also Chairman of the Elton John AIDS Foundation. A tireless campaigner, Furnish is a leading voice in the worldwide fight against HIV and AIDS. To date, the Elton John AIDS Foundation has raised in excess of $400 million to fund prevention and treatment.
