Self-taught fashion designer Elie Saab grew up in Beirut, Lebanon. After a brief period studying fashion in Paris, Saab later showed  his first on-schedule ready-to-wear collection at Milan Fashion Week in 1997. Elie Saab became a household name in 2002 when Halle Berry wore a draped burgundy gown by the designer to the Academy Awards where she won the Oscar for Best Actress.

Following an invitation from the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, Saab showed his first on-schedule haute couture collection in Paris in July 2003, and has also shown his ready-to-wear collection at the city's fashion week since 2005. Saab now sells his ready-to-wear in boutiques and department stores all over the world and his designs have been worn by a number of high-profile figures including Queen Rania of Jordan, Angelina Jolie, Beyoncé and Céline Dion.
