Fashion East is a pioneering non-profit designer support and showcasing initiative founded by the Old Truman Brewery and Lulu Kennedy MBE in 2000.

Fashion East and its menswear scheme MAN, have launched the careers of some of the UK’s most prolific design talent, including: Richard Nicoll, Jonathan Saunders, House of Holland, Gareth Pugh, Marios Schwab, Roksanda Ilincic, Louise Gray, Meadham Kirchhoff, James Long, Christopher Shannon, JW Anderson and Kim Jones (now Men’s Style Director at Louis Vuitton). The scheme runs 3 projects for selected emerging designers seasonally at London Fashion Week and London Collections: Men – the Fashion East womenswear show, the MAN show and the Menswear Installations.

The Fashion East womenswear catwalk show presents three ready-to-wear designers at London Fashion Week. Topshop has been headline sponsor since 2003. Designers are selected by a high profile panel of industry experts who offer guidance and mentoring support throughout the season. As part of the scheme designers receive a bursary, free show venue and catwalk show production, photography and videography of the event. Additionally, designers are taken to Paris to hold sales appointments with international stores, a crucial part of a brand’s business growth.

In 2005 Fashion East partnered with TOPMAN to initiate MAN, an identical support scheme for London-based menswear designers when there was no menswear showcase in London.

In 2009 the Menswear Installations were launched as a complement to the MAN show, launching the inaugural menswear day at London Fashion Week. Typically six to eight up-and-coming designers present their collections through a diverse mix of live models, presentations and multimedia installations. Past installations have included an installed bus shelter, boxing ring, a spaceship and a speakeasy. In 2012 small salon shows were introduced into the mix too.

Fashion East’s MAN show and Menswear Installations not only spearheaded the menswear day at London Fashion Week but were the catalyst in the launch of London Collections: Men in 2012.
