Hall Ohara

Fashion Designer

Hall Ohara is a womenswear label created by Steven Hall and Yurika Ohara, based in Tokyo. Both the British-born Hall and Japanese-born Ohara graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design with first class degrees in Fashion Design Womenswear in 2003. It was on the course that the design duo first met. They married each other in September 2004, and decided to establish their own design label Hall Ohara in 2005.

Both share a love of absurdity and the surreal, and explore notions of automatic drawing, Dadaist collage and Surrealism in their approach towards printing and garment design. Winners of the 2006 British Fashion Council and Topshop’s New Gen designer’s award, the duo have continued to develop their unique and quirky aesthetic. Hall Ohara have worked on various collaborations with Dazed & Confused Japan, Nylon Japan, Amelia’s Magazine, Garcia Marquez Gauche and Creative Recreation. They were featured in Hywel Davies' 100 New Fashion Designers in 2008.
