Ian Thompson

Professor

Dr. Ian Thompson is a Reader in medical device innovation at the Kings College London. He runs a research programme developing new bone graft materials and bioactive glasses for dental treatments, as well as clinical trial evaluations of new products. Thompson is also the product director at Denfotex Research Ltd, specialising in the uses of bioactive glass in dental treatments.

His research interests include specialism in uses of bioactive glass in both hard and soft tissue applications, the basic science development of bio ceramics for orthopaedic applications and translational research for a wide range of materials and clinical applications.

Thompson was previously the technical director at OSspray Ltd and laboratory and resources manager at the Imperial College London. He holds a BA (Hons) degree in English from Queen Mary & Westfield College, University of London and a PhD degree in the development of a mouldable bioactive composite from Imperial College London.
