Iwona Blazwick, OBE was appointed as the Director of the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London in 2001. She is an art critic and a lecturer and she is often referred as the most important woman in British art.

A respected curator, it was she who first spotted the potential of Damien Hirst. She is the chair of the London Cultural Strategy Group, and she is on the advisory board of the Government Art.She played a vital role in the development of Tate Modern. Blazwick is an outspoken champion of the arts.
