Julia Männistö

Fashion Designer

Julia Männistö is a Finnish fashion designer. She is of Colombian descent and grew up in Finland, and did her MA in Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins in London in 2014.

Her garments draw on shapes and silhouettes to generate inspirational pieces. Overlapping random placements and raw technique represent a mind that is both trapped and over-protected.

Männistö's graduate collection Boys Don’t Cry played with the boundaries between protection and being trapped. The key themes were ice-hockey players with their protective sportswear, and historical garments from the Elizabethan era. She was a finalist in the LVMH Prize in 2016.
