Nakhane

Musician

South African musician, author and actor Nakhane allows himself to be emotional, challenging the shame prescribed to him by heteronormativity. His soulful pop materialised in his debut album Brave Confusion (2013) and grew in his sophomore album You Will Not Die (2018). Touching on queerness, spirituality and desolation it can be seen as a response to the death threats he suffered after starring in the film The Wound (2017), an intimate portrayal of a gay relationship within the Xhosa tribe’s initiation rites. Amidst those projects Nakhane’s debut novel Piggy Boy’s Blues, described as a distorted pastoral, was published in 2016.
