Pedro Reyes

Artist

Pedro Reyes is an artist. He was born in 1972 in Mexico City, where he lives and works. Reyes studied architecture at the Ibero-American University. 

Reyes is known for large-scale projects that address current social and political issues, through sculpture, performance and videos. One of Reyes' notable works critiques contemporary gun culture; Palas por Pistolas (2008), saw the artist worked with Mexican authorities to melt down guns into shovels to be used to plant trees.

Reyes' work has been shown in solo exhibitions including Walker Art Center, Minneapolis in 2011; Guggenheim Museum, New York in 2011; CCA Kitakyushu, Japan in 2009; Bass Museum, Miami in 2008; and San Francisco Art Institute in 2008. His group exhibitions include documenta 13, Kassel, Germany in 2013; Liverpool Biennial, UK in 2012; Gwangju Biennial, South Korea in 2012; Lyon Biennale, France in 2009; and the 50th Venice Biennale in 2003.
