Phoebe Philo is a British fashion designer, born in Paris and educated in London. Philo studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, graduating in 1996. In 1997 she moved to Paris, joining Chloe as first assistant on ready-to-wear working alongside Creative Director Stella McCartney. Philo went on to be appointed Creative Director of the brand in 2001 and was instrumental in the rehabilitation of Chloe as a luxury global brand. Alongside her successful ready-to-wear line, she introduced accessories to the brand in 2002. Her work at Chloe was recognised by the British Fashion Council who awarded her the British Designer of the Year award in 2005. Philo resigned from Chloe shortly after, taking a break from the fashion industry for the birth of her second child. She returned to fashion in September 2008, appointed Creative Director of Céline and board member of Céline S.A. Her début Céline Pre-Spring 2010 collection and the subsequent Spring/Summer 2010 collection won great critical acclaim. In December 2010 she was named British Designer of the Year by the British Fashion Council for the second time.
