Stella Tennant is a leading British model. Born in 1970, Tennant is the granddaughter of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. She completed an Art Foundation at Kingston Polytechnic and went on to study at degree level at the Winchester School of Art. After graduating she intended to pursue a career in sculpture, but began modelling after a friend introduced her to fashion writer Plum Sykes. Tennant’s angular appearance and her unconventional facial piercings quickly attracted the attention of high-profile photographers such as Steven Meisel and Bruce Weber. She swiftly began to appear in shoots for publications including i-D, British, French and Italian Vogue, The Face, Harper’s Bazaar and Numéro, and in 2001 was awarded the VH1/Vogue Model of the Year award. In addition to regularly appearing on the catwalks for design houses including Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent, Tennant has featured in numerous advertising campaigns including Calvin Klein, Hermès and most famously, the Burberry campaign styled by Carine Roitfeld and photographed by Mario Testino, which aimed to revitalise the British brand. Tennant lives with her husband, the photographer David Lasnet, and her three children in Scotland.
