Born in Cheshire to a diplomat father, Susie Bick (Cave) spent her childhood in Malawi and Nigeria. At the age of 14, she ran away from boarding school to New York, where she was discovered by a modelling agent. On her return to England, at 17, she became David Bailey's muse and worked with several top photographers, namely Steven Meisel, Dominique Isserman, Guy Bourdin, Helmut Newton and Sarah Moon.

Widely recognised for her iconic photograph, Susie Smoking, by Nick Knight, shot for the Yohji Yamamoto A/W 88 catalogue, Bick has done ad campaigns for Christian Dior, Nina Ricci, Tuscany perfume, Versace and Yves Saint Laurent and has also graced the covers of French Glamour, Harper's & Queen, Elle UK and i-D. She worked extensively with Vivienne Westwood for 10 years, but gave up modelling in 1997 when she met singer Nick Cave, who she married in 1999.

In 2014, she founded womenswear brand The Vampire's Wife.
