Thakoon

Fashion Designer

Thakoon is a fashion brand founded in 2004 by Thailand-born designer Thakoon Panichgul. The label mirrors the diversity of Panichgul’s background - he left Thailand as a child to be raised in Omaha, Nebraska before relocating to New York City. After completing his business degree at Boston University, Panichgul spent four years as a writer and editor for Harper’s Bazaar before enrolling in a design course at Parsons School of Design. His first ready-to-wear collection was presented in September 2004. Thakoon was one of three recipients of the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund in 2006, and was also nominated for the CFDA/Swarovski Award for Best Emerging Womenswear Designer. In 2009 Thakoon was appointed Creative Director of the Japanese high-end jewellery brand Tasaki.

Panichgul put Thakoon on hold in 2017. In 2019, he founded HommeGirls, a multimedia initiative—part-zine, part-Instagram account, part-website—dedicated to women who wear menswear. Later that year, he announced Thakoon the brand would be relaunching with a new direct-to-consumer business model, offering everyday essentials at accessible prices.
