Ann-Sofie Back is a fashion designer from Sweden. Graduating from Central Saint Martins with an MA in womenswear in 1998, she launched her eponymous label in 2001 in Paris, and continues to show on the London schedule. In 2005, she launched Back, a secondary line with a more accessible price point.
Back draws inspiration from Stenhamra, a downbeat suburb of Stockholm. Her clothing champions the everyday and the banal, often celebrating the details in the disposable. Failed everyday glamour, accidental embarrassment and the transformative properties of clothing have been frequent motifs in Back's collections.
She was awarded the prestigious Goldbutton Award and in 2007, was nominated for the Swiss Textile Award. Her work has been featured in group design exhibitions at the ICA and the Victoria & Albert Museum, Palais de Tokyo and Musée de la Mode de la Ville, and also at the Venice Biennale. In 2009, Back was appointed the joint creative director of denim brand Cheap Monday, alongside its founder Örjan Andersson.
In 2018, Back sold off her archive collections.
