Bel Jacobs is a freelance writer, speaker and activist with her own successful blog, beljacobs.com. Between 1999 and 2013, she was Style Editor for Metro during which time she helped build the paper’s fashion content, interviewing key figures such as Karl Lagerfeld, Rita Ora, Christian Louboutin, Vivienne Westwood, Philip Treacy, Isabella Blow and Valentino Garavani.
Following the Rana Plaza disaster in 2013, Jacobs re-assessed her role in promoting fashion; today, she focuses particularly on animal rights, the climate emergency and the toxic fashion system. She runs two websites, beljacobs.com and HowNow Magazine, both focusing on positive initiatives changing fashion and the wider issues surrounding sustainability.
In July 2013, at the inaugural Fashion Monitor journalism awards, she was nominated as Fashion Journalist of the Year, for which she was ‘highly commended’. She was a judge for Fashion Fringe in 2011 and the UK Fashion and Textile Awards 2015, as well as a judge for the Considered Design Award at Graduate Fashion Week in 2019. Jacobs has also hosted panel discussions for Soho Create and Decoded Fashion and written for the British Fashion Council.
Jacobs is a coordinator of Extinction Rebellion Fashion Action, the group behind ground-breaking campaigns including Boycott Fashion and Cancel Fashion Week. A new project Fashion Act Now aims to speed up change in the industry, in line with the collective emergency we now face.
