Camilla Skovgaard was a Danish-born shoe designer. Graduating from Royal College of Art with an MA in Footwear Design and Product Development, Skovgaard found almost instant success when Saks Fifth Avenue ordered her first collection. She became known for bold, innovative, and sometimes erotic footwear that explored the lines between elegance and brutality. Dismissing embellishment, Skovgaard placed emphasis on ergonomics looking at form, fabrication and style.
She was honoured with the Queen Elizabeth Scholar Award for Excellence in British Craftsmanship in 2007 and nominated for Accessories Designer of the Year at the 2010 British Fashion Awards. Her clientele include international fashion editors as well as celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron, and Kristen Stewart. Her pieces were sold in 176 locations in 33 countries, including Harvey Nichols London, Symphony Dubai, Joyce Hong Kong, and Net-a-porter.com.
In 2018, Skovgaard was diagnosed with cancer, and passed away in her home country later that year.
