Giorgio Armani is an Italian fashion designer. Born in Piacenza in the north of Italy, Armani leads a business empire that spans fashion, fragrance, beauty, hotels and restaurants. Starting out as a window dresser in the fashionable department store La Rinascente in Milan, Armani went on to design menswear at Nino Cerruti.
Launching his own line of menswear in 1975, Armani swiftly gained a reputation for his relaxed silhouettes. Armani began to produce womenswear in the same year.
Known for his strong relationship with Hollywood, Armani dresses many of the film industry's most glamorous stars for the red carpet and famously created the wardrobe for Richard Gere in 1980 film American Gigolo.
