Nicolas Roa is a Dubai-based illustrator and graphic designer from the Philippines. After starring in a reality TV show at the age of 21, he left for Dubai to work for couture label, Amato, whose clientele include Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande. After four years in fashion, Road moved into graphic design and social media content creation.
His portraits of women with swan-like necks embody a hauntingly delicate, almost fragile femininity beneath a melancholic gaze. He creates raw pencilled lines on textured paper overlaid with digital coloration, finishing his pieces with a grainy touch imitating the quality found in traditional photography and vintage films. Visual influences include filmmakers Wes Anderson, Guillermo del Toro and Tim Burton as well as photographers Tim Walker and Paolo Roversi.
