Although Rok Hwang was born in South Korea, he grew up in Austin, Texas, in a caravan with his economist father. Having moved to Nottingham as a teenager, Hwang then moved to London to study menswear as an undergraduate, before specialising in womenswear on the MA course at Central Saint Martins. His affinity for womenswear led him to be selected for Phoebe Philo's inaugural team for her tenure at Céline.
After three years at Céline, and stints at Chloé and Louis Vuitton, Hwang founded his brand ROKH in 2016. In 2018 he was awarded the Special Prize of the LVMH Prize.
