Simon Periton

Artist

Known for his intricately cut doily-like sculptures, artist Simon Periton was born in England and studied at London's Central Saint Martins college. Periton draws inspiration for his work from a wide range of sources including punk, paganism, the occult, religion and politics. Commissioned to create pieces for Channel 4's London headquarters and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Periton also exhibited at the Royal Academy's summer exhibition in 2004 and 2007.

In various publicly commissioned artworks and sculptures (for example, Farringdon Station for the Crossrail Commission, at the New Art Centre, Roche Court; ROQ Oxford; and the Brentford Connection, all London), Periton has created outdoor pieces that make special reference to their settings while also showing the artist transmuting aesthetics of his earlier works in an ongoing exploration of naturally occurring forms and experimentations with materiality.

Selected exhibitions include the solo show Mint Poisoner, Inverleith house, Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh, 2003; and the group show Wunschwelten, Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt, 2007. He is represented by Sadie Coles.
