Raised in Pennsylvania, Thom Browne's distinct approach to the man's suit has had an important influence on fashion in America and worldwide. Gaining an Economics degree at the University of Notre Dame, Browne moved to New York in 1997, where he designed for Club Monaco.
Browne debuted his eponymous label in 2001 in order to challenge the accepted and increasing casualness of men's business dress. Thom Browne signatures include cropping, three-button fastenings, tailoring that exposes the ankles and wrists and trousers that lack belt-loops. In 2007, Browne collaborated with Brooks Brothers - a year after he was named designer of the year by GQ. in 2013, Browne was awarded Menswear Designer of the Year by the CFDA and in 2014, launched his womenswear line.
In 2022, Browne was named the CFDA chairman.
