Zac Posen was born in New York in 1980. He attended St Ann's School for the Arts in Brooklyn, and then began a BA in womenswear at Central Saint Martin's in 1999, while also cultivating a private client list. His label became so successful he abandoned study in 2001 to running this, initially out of his parents home. Gaining press notoriety and creating huge anticipation for his debut catwalk show, shown for Spring-Summer 2002, Zac Posen drew further critical acclaim and several awards. Posen spent two years as an intern at the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute, where his study of the Vionnet and Dior originals left him with a keen sense of fashion history, which informs many of his techniques: ruffled satin, fishtail hemlines, swooping necklines and bias-cut silhouettes.
