Aries Takes Inspiration from Rhinestone Cowboys for Juicy Couture Collab
When it comes to cowboys we don’t blame you for thinking of the brooding John Wayne or furrow-browed Clint Eastwood in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Still, for anyone that has ever attended a real-world rodeo, you’d know there is a lot of glitz and glamour to be seen amongst the hyper-masculine pageantry. It’s exactly the glamorous side of the rodeo that inspired streetwear brand Aries’ collaboration with Juicy Couture. Dubbed ‘Rhinestoned Cowboys’, this limited edition capsule collection features the best of both brands as they reference the sartorial splendour of Nudie Cohn, the king of maximalist rodeo tailoring.
The influential American tailor might have originally been born in Kyiv, but (just like Juicy Couture) it was California that Cohn called home. Opening his own shop, Nudie’s of Hollywood, in the mid-40s, Cohn’s ostentatious take on western wear quickly took hold of the City of Angels. With business booming he was commissioned to create some of Elvis Presley’s most iconic costumes including the gold lamé suit featured on the 50, 000,000 Elvis Fans Can’t Be Wrong album cover. Being Hollywood and all, Cohn was also commissioned to create costumes for some of the world’s biggest stars including John Lennon, John Wayne, and the iconic Cher.
It’s precisely the overabundance of rhinestones that makes him the ultimate inspiration for Aries and Juicy Couture’s partnership. Encapsulating the ethos of both brands, the capsule collection features no shortage of embellishment as Juicy Couture’s iconic moniker and Aries’ temple logo are unified as one. The signature velour tracksuits indicative of Y2K are studded with crystal roses and crosses and rock'n'roll graphics that would make Cohn proud.
The Aries x Juicy Couture capsule collectionlaunches online on 2 February.
