Louis Vuitton's latest campaign, directed by Nicolas Ghesquière and shot by renowned photographer Steven Meisel, sees French actress Léa Seydoux naked in bed with a trusty companion. Spoiler alert: this woman doesn't need a man. Joining her under the sheets is her Louis Vuitton Capucines handbag.
Channelling the ever-so-seductive Marilyn Monroe in the campaign, Ghesquière's art direction shines a light on the most of intimate of relationships, one that's often forgotten about in the modern mainstream media - one between a woman and her handbag. Successfully encapsulating the timeless elegance of Louis Vuitton, the Capucines bag is described as a 'modern classic' by the house, mixing luxury and craftsmanship with modern values to create a perfect all-rounder for all ages to show off on the end of their arm, (or in bed).
This isn't the first Bond actress' reinterpretation of Ms. Monroe; in a recent French Vogue shoot with Alasdair McLellan, Seydoux also re-created other well-known portraits of the 50s film star by Cecil Beaton and Milton Greene. When you consider the sexualisation of Bond girls and fashion's obsession with them (and of course, Marilyn Monroe) the two references seem to naturally go hand in hand. Speaking of the iconic Louis Vuitton bag, Seydoux said, 'The Capucines represents the essence of French savoir-faire. I'm very honoured to be the Capucines ambassador as it's a handbag I love and wear all the time'.
