This year, Burberry are officially partnering with The British Council to support the British Pavilion at La Biennale di Venezia - one of the world's most renowned international art fairs.

Entering its 85th year in commission from The British Council, The British Pavilion dates way back to 1937, intended to showcase the best of artists, architects, designers and curators from the UK. For 2022, the space will briefly fall home to artist Sonia Boyce OBE RA.

Often considered more significant than other art fairs (no, but really, it's quite a biggie), the esteemed fair dates back to 1893, yet its influence on the art world was all due to one event in 1964, when Robert Rauschenberg won the Venice Biennale's Golden Lion for painting; a choice soon imbued with wider significance. It meant - at least for art historians - that the US's artistic triumph over the Old World was finally acknowledged for all its worth. Pop Art suddenly became part of the intellectual creative cannon, and a new milestone was forged.

La Biennale di Venezia opens to the public on Saturday 23 April 2022.
