With a sell-out tour and album, Future Nostalgia, based on blasts from the past - including samples of tracks by Gwen Stefani, Stevie Nicks and Neneh Cherry - global pop sensation Dua Lipa took the neon lights of a retro disco and rave flyers as the inspiration for her second hook up with sportswear brand Puma. With a viral Versace runway wink under her belt, having also walked for Balenciaga's latest haute couture show last week in Paris, Lipa is one of fashion's hottest cultural pin-ups of the moment, making the new Puma Flutur collaboration a bonafide must-see.
Designing a 30-piece collection with the Puma team, together with longtime Puma collaborator, designer and songwriter Billy Walsh, Lipa's unisex collection (the first segment dropped late last year), was conceived with dancing in mind. With a tour wardrobe made up of lycra bodysuits by the likes of Mugler and Balenciaga, Lipa's high voltage dance routines require outfits which are glamorous as well as functional. The Dua Lipa x Puma collection, available globally from 14 July 2022, features tracksuits, skin-tight zip up jerseys, skirts and polo tops in vibrant orange, pink and purple shades. In an accompanying campaign film and set of images by Jordan Hemingway, the designs are modelled by a troupe of dancers from Lipa's Future Nostalgia tour.
The full wardrobe offering also includes new takes on the Puma CELLDomeKing and Mayze shoes, all tied together with Lipa's butterfly lettermark - inspired by rave posters. The butterfly also symbolises transition and new beginnings, as the superstar explained:
'The butterfly represents transition, metamorphosis, and new beginnings. I felt like in the beginning, when I first started working on drop one, the butterfly already had a lot of meaning for me.Now, going into the second drop, that meaning has just solidified itself and become even more important in my life. It feels like everything progressed and manifested itself in that way.'
To kick off the launch, the pop superstar hosted the rave of all raves at London hot spot Bistrotheque. Joined by a very fashionable host of friends, including Bimini Bon Boulash, Saul Nash, Charles Jeffrey, Campbell Addy, Chet Lo, Miss Jason, Bianca Saunders and Karen Binns, a dinner set to pre-stained tablecloths and upturned chairs led into a rave featuring original lights from M25 throwdowns featuring DJ sets by Hasani and MYGAL.
