Unveiled today, Burberry's new campaign Burberry Open Spaces sees the British fashion house's luxurious outwear where it belongs – the great outdoors. Set in the British countryside at dusk, photographer Ewen Spencer, known for his electric, sweaty images of UK club culture, lenses the campaign, which runs alongside another outerwear campaign starring Irina Shayk, shot by Danko Steiner.
‘Burberry is synonymous with British style and the subcultural moments typified by British youth,' says Spencer. 'This campaign captures a vista of opportunity and optimism that encapsulates that spirit.' Whether the kids in the campaign are en route to a countryside rave – or fresh out of one – is difficult to tell, but their Burberry check baseball camps, fluorescent orange shades and snug crossbody bags are perfect for the occasion.
An accompanying, gravity-defying campaign film made by chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci and Megaforce sees four individuals float and fly through cornfields, finally ending up above the sea near the chalky cliffs by the seaside. 'To dream is the most real way to exist,' said (La) Horde, the choreographers behind the film. 'To dream is to access another perception of ourselves, another time, without limits. To fly is to defy gravity in a poetic act, which carries the body towards elevating freedom.'
