There is no denying that the fashion industry is an unforgiving place for emerging talents. No one knows this better than designer Nasir Mazhar, who quickly learned how fashion's favoured wholesale model can put a financial burden on young creatives due to the pressure of churning out products in order to make money. Cutting out the funds that would go towards buyers, marketing, and more, Mazhar founded the design collective Fantastic Toiles to support independent designers with the time and space to grow their brands. The concept boutique first launched in Forest Gate, London, and the latest pop-up will take place in New Cross Gate.
This weekend marks Fantastic Toiles' very first drop of the year. Bringing together over 20 independent designers to create exclusive one-off garments and accessories including known names like Jawara Alleyne and Leo Carlton to names to know like Yaz XL who is bridging the world of fashion and prosthetic special effects. Leading up to this weekend's drop, Nick Knight invited the designers of Fantastic Toiles to participate in a two-day live shoot. Highlighting the very best of the innovative concept store, the shoot captured the eclecticism and excitement at the heart of the Mahzar's project.
Fantastic Toiles is open on 4-5 February from 11:00-19:00 at 141 Lewisham Way SE15 5PN.
