Gucci has announced Renée E. Tirado as the company's new Global Head of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Coming off of a year where the brand has had several racial and religious sensitive controversies within their collections, Gucci has decided to take steps to improve diversity within the company and the fashion industry as a whole.
In her role, Tirado will design and lead a global strategy to improve diversity, inclusivity, and equity at the brand, while providing oversight on Gucci's business goals. She will report directly to CEO Marco Bizzarri and work closely to ensure that her initiatives are being implemented across the entire company, at all levels.
'This appointment is a fundamental building block to further our commitment and support the initiatives already in place,' said Bizzarri. 'As a learning organisation, we have challenged ourselves over the last few months to accelerate our vision to develop a stronger organisation. I am confident that Renée will help us create the meaningful change we want to see not only in our company but in the fashion industry.'
Gucci's plan of action begins with the hiring of Tirado but also includes a multi-cultural design scholarship program, a global learning program focusing on diversity and inclusivity awareness, and a global exchange program for employees.
